Au pied du courant

The Au-Pied-du-Courant detention center, built between 1831 and 1836, played a significant role in the history of Lower Canada, notably during the 1837–1838 Rebellion, when patriots were imprisoned and executed on site. The facility closed in 1912 and later became the headquarters of the SAQ, from its creation in 1921 until 2017. The complex includes multiple buildings from different periods, combining brick and concrete masonry, massive structures, and more contemporary additions.
